Programme Aim
The Bachelor Honours Degree at Maranatha College of Wisdom is a premier academic programme designed for scholars seeking profound biblical depth and ministerial excellence. This course integrates rigorous research with practical wisdom, preparing leaders for significant impact in their communities and global ministry contexts. The Bachelor’s (honours) degree programme is a modular programme designed so that they are made of study and assessment blocks which we call modules. Each module is worth 15 credits with a final year project worth up to 30 credits.
The student will build these modules up usually gaining at least 120 credits per year from the certificate level, Diploma level and bachelor’s honours degree level until the student completes at least 360 credits to achieve an Honours degree. The Honours Degree programme is a three year programme with special emphasis on individual ministry, further Biblical study, Missiology and Social studies. If a student does not complete the honours modular degree programme successfully, you may be granted the opportunity at the discretion of the Examination Board to re-sit the failed module or modules. Again, if you fail the re-sit element (s) you will be eligible to receive a Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) with 240 Credits.
Entry Requirements
- Candidates must hold recognised Certificate and Diploma qualifications in biblical studies
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and ministerial service.
- Proficiency in English for advanced biblical research.
- Those who have good A levels at A or B+ can complete the BA programme in 3 years.
- Those with a 2 year Diploma in biblical studies can have a one year top up to complete the degree programmes with 360 credit points.
- Those coming through the foundation route, can complete the programme as long they achieve 240 credit points at diploma and can also complete the degree programme in a year with 360 credit points.

Assessment
Final degree classification is determined by the results gained at Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor’s programmes including a good performance in your final year project. The modules of study in the degree programme are assessed by a combination of a continuous assessment (such as essays, reports, practical activities and presentations). Compulsory Modules A, B, C, D, E are worth 75 credits (each worth 15 credits) and the final year project, Module F is worth 30 credits giving a total credits score of 105.
Similarly, Modules G and H are optional modules worth 15 credits each. Students are expected to choose only one optional module adding it to the compulsory modules taken and passed to give a total of 120 credit points. Students to be awarded BA (Hons) degree in Biblical studies, the student would have achieved 120 credits in the Certificate level, 120 credits in the Diploma level and 120 credits at the final year of the degree level giving a total of 360 credits.

Note: Students select either Module G or Module H as part of their optional assessment.
Degree Classification & Grading
The modules in the degree programme are graded as follows: A student who achieves a First-class (1st) must have a mark of 70%+ with equivalent grade of A. A student who achieves Upper second class (2.1) must have a mark from 65-69 with equivalent grade of B+ (plus). A student who achieves a second class Lower (2.2) honours degree must have a mark between 60-64 and equivalent grade of B. A student who achieves a third class (a third) must have a mark from 50-59 and equivalent grade of C. Again, a student who achieves an Ordinary degree must have a mark from 40-49 and equivalent grade of D.
Finally, any student who achieves a mark below 39 fails the Honour’s Degree programme and by the decision of the Examination Board, the student may be granted the opportunity to re-sit the element (s)of the failed compulsory modules and/or the optional module in the re-sit period in August. If the student passes the re-sit module (s) they will be capped at 40% with equivalent grade of C. except the student has extenuating circumstances. Nevertheless, if the student still fails the re-sit module (s), the student will be awarded a Diploma in Higher Education.
It is noteworthy to elucidate that a student who achieves any of the following marks 39, 49, 59, 69, stands the chance for the achieved mark to be upgraded into the next classification but this will be entirely at the discretion of the Examination Board in their deliberations of the final results.
ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE HONOURS DEGREE PROGRAMME
On successful completion of the Degree programme, the student would have gained a wide-ranging knowledge and understanding of biblical truths and increasing understanding of how to do ministry. The student would have gained a life changing experience and be able to demonstrate a commanding knowledge and understanding of the integrity of the word of God and the importance of Christian ethics and society. Similarly, by the end of the programme, the student will be able to Identify and demonstrate understanding of elections and covenants, the importance of the church and society and the relevance of a believer being involved in politics.
